A lot of cloth and some time

Hello everyone, thanks for visiting my blog! 😄 If you're here because of my blog name, then yes, it's exactly like what it sounds - I'll be documenting my attempts to recreate pictures of toys and other cute things that I see online on this blog! And hopefully, share any lessons or important tips and tricks that I pick up along the way.

I'm calling this blog my little side project for mastering a new skill - Tammy Tries To Sew will be a record of my progress as I try to sew things from just looking at the photo as much as possible. Since my only experience with a needle and thread is darning the occasional sock, be prepared for possibly hilarious expectation vs. reality results!

The story of how this blog came to be is a funny one. It started when I expressed a small interest in sewing plushies and such to my doting grandaunt. This particular grandaunt of mine happens to be a childcare teacher, and upon hearing my interest in sewing immediately gathered up all the bits and bobs of cloth she had gathered over her years of teaching arts-and-craft to children for me. Which, put together, was actually a fairly substantial amount of cloth:

So with nearly 20 metres of fabric to use, I figured I had enough to experiment and play around with, and Tammy Tries To Sew was born! I hope my blog posts may inspire some of you to pick up a new skill (like sewing) and prove that it's easy to learn a something new, even when you're starting from scratch. 😊

So here we are! I have a lot of cloth and some time on my hands, so I can't wait to get started! I'll post my first attempt once it's completed. Goodbye for now!

The first project!

I finally completed my first project, guys! For my first attempt at felt crafting, I attempted this  kawaii sushi plush tutorial  by another Tammy, Tammy Hallam! I chose it because it was small and simple to make, so it was perfect for a virgin attempt. 😄 From the first time I watched the video, I already knew there was so much to learn. The first thing I learned is to measure out your pieces before sewing them together! Tammy helpfully provided the measurements for each piece in her video. It's definitely so much easier to put everything together after you've cut out and assembled the pieces you need. Initially, I thought that my basic knowledge of sewing was enough, but I quickly realised that there were so many other ways to sew, too! Tammy mainly used something called a "blanket stitch" when sewing her plushie. Tutorials on how to sew a blanket stitch can be easily found on Youtube, and I used a few when learning how to do it too! While a regular straight...
